  • Why we will love you

You’re excited to help build the Observability platform that powers engineering teams across IKEA - and you’re curious about using AI to work smarter every day, from debugging issues to shipping features.

Our team is at the heart of Operational Intelligence, supporting engineering teams across IKEA with operational metrics, centralized logging, and distributed tracing, spanning multiple global data centers and clouds (GCP, Azure, Alicloud).

We’re a growing platform engineering team running IKEA’s Open Source Observability platform on top of the Grafana stack (Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir) for metrics, logs and traces, across global data centers and cloud (GCP, Alicloud). Today, the platform supports 300 product teams with 1,000+ users, handling 45 TB of log/trace ingest per day and around 70 million time series - and continuing to grow.

What you'll be doing day to day

As a Software Engineer in the Observability Platform team, you’ll contribute to turning our Observability Core platform into a highly automated, self-service platform for product and infrastructure teams across IKEA.
You’ll work closely with senior engineers, SREs and product teams to build, operate and improve platform capabilities - and you’ll use AI tools as a natural part of your daily work, from exploring design options to writing and testing code.

    What you’ll do
    • Help build and evolve a Kubernetes-based Observability platform running in hybrid infrastructure (on prem + GCP/Alicloud), working with experienced engineers to learn best practices.
    • Implement and maintain automated platform workflows using Terraform, Argo CD, Helm and GitHub Actions as part of our CI/CD pipelines.
    • Contribute to operating and improving Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir and OpenTelemetry-based Observability for critical services at scale (dashboards, alerts, SLOs, traces, and logs).
    • Collaborate with platform and product teams to add and refine features that make it easier for them to gain Observability insights in their daily work.
    • Participate in researching new capabilities in the Observability ecosystem (with guidance), helping us stay current with community developments.
    • Act as an Observability partner to product teams, helping them improve reliability, automation and developer experience - increasingly leveraging AI tools as you grow in the role.

    What you bring
    • Around 2 - 4 years of experience as a systems/software engineer (or equivalent practical experience).
    • A creative, inquisitive mindset: you like to experiment, learn from others, and share knowledge in the team.
    • Solid programming skills in Python or Go, and interest in working on platform tooling and automation.
    • Experience with containerized applications and Kubernetes, and exposure to at least one major cloud platform (GCP, Azure or Alicloud); curiosity to deepen your skills in hybrid environments.
    • Some hands-on experience (or strong interest) in one or more of: Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar Observability tools.
    • A platform engineering mindset: you enjoy building shared tools and services that help many teams ship better software, faster.
    • Interest in using AI/ML/LLM tools and “vibe coding” to accelerate how you learn, build, and debug - or experience already doing so - and comfort working in Agile teams using Jira, Git and CI/CD.

    About this work area

    • Hands-on experience with a large-scale Observability platform using the modern open source Grafana ecosystem (Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, OpenTelemetry) in a hybrid multi cloud environment.
    • A vibrant, entrepreneurial, and innovative environment with a small team of dedicated engineers who will support your growth.
    • Strong development opportunities and a chance to contribute to IKEA’s digital transformation while learning modern platform engineering and SRE practices.
    • We care about a healthy, flexible life balance and a culture where you can be yourself and grow – personally and professionally.
