About the Role
You will lead a team of highly talented UX Designers within Retail Concept Operations. Your position will be named Competence Hub Development Manager internally, this is a brand-new role, and your task is to lead and inspire a team who design beautiful, effective, and user-centric experiences that impact over 200,000 co-workers across the globe, as well as billions of customers.
Through your leadership, you will inform and guide on the IKEA Concept and what IKEA stands for, ensuring your team’s digital touchpoint upholds the brand’s integrity.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of UX designers to achieve exceptional design outcomes.
Oversee the creation of visually stunning interfaces that consider technical limitations.
Be hands-on and lead by example in creating the very best user experiences.
Foster an environment that encourages innovation and embraces change.
Build and maintain trusting relationships and long-term partnerships with stakeholders at all levels.
Ensure the team is consistently delivering high-quality work that aligns with IKEA’s digital strategy.
Advocate for user-centered design principles and ensure they are integrated into all design processes.
Job Description
We are the team that delivers the operational capabilities needed for the Retail Concept Business of IKEA as a franchisor. We are a group of highly entrepreneurial IKEA enthusiasts that provide modern solutions, tools, and frameworks to all of IKEA, elevating and harmonizing the global digital footprint of this iconic home furnishing retailer.
Our responsibilities span the breadth of digital experiences and technical enablers across retail experiences, brand and marketing, learning and development. This includes IKEA.com, IKEA.net, Digital Design System, Digital Retail Guidance, IKEA Knowledge Graph, Learning Solutions, Digital Optimization, Digital Retail Solutions in Stores, Modular Content, and more.
With IKEA’s 80-year legacy as a home furnishing retailer, we have accumulated a remarkable body of wisdom. Now, we are on a journey to make this ever-evolving wisdom easily findable, searchable, friendly, and impactful.
About You
We want individuals who take the responsibility of serving every co-worker seriously, with a clear understanding of the scale towards billions of customers who should always look forward to their next visit to IKEA.
You garner respect by your mastery in your craft as a former designer as well as your ability to guide designers with compassion. You are motivated by bringing out the very best in others, through effective coaching, mentoring and hands-on leadership style.
You are extremely passionate about the growth of your team and possess a very high entrepreneurial spirit. You love solving problems rather than falling in love with solutions. Your service-minded attitude towards user outcomes is crucial, especially considering the impact your solutions will have on our 12 franchisees across 60 markets.
Key Skills and Experience
Leadership experience and outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal.
People management experience is preferable but not essential.
Extensive experience in UX design with a solid portfolio that demonstrates the ability to design beautiful and impactful experiences.
Advanced proficiency in Figma or similar design tools.
Adept at creating journey maps, experience flows, wireframes, and usability testing.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down complex information and present it in a clear, engaging manner.
Exceptional English language skills, with the ability to cater to non-native audiences through compelling storytelling.
In-depth knowledge of web technologies and web design.
Experience working for, or with, an IKEA company is preferable, or a strong passion for the home furnishing business.
Proven ability to facilitate workshops that produce tangible results and create lasting impact.
Hands-on experience with digital accessibility and inclusive design principles.
Deep understanding of the operational complexity of a company the size of IKEA.

This role is full-time and based in Malmö or Delft. It sits in the Digital Capability Area of Retail Concept Operations and reports to the UX Manager.
