  • What you'll need to have

    【Required Qualifications】
    • 5+ years in PR, communication, journalism or integrated marketing communication.
    • Proven experience leading commercial PR or product‑driven storytelling.
    • Experience managing media and journalist relations in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
    • Experience working with influencers and digital‑first content creators.
    • Proven experience in integrated campaign execution.
    • Experience in issue management or operational risk communication (preferred).
    • Experience working cross‑functionally with marketing or commercial teams.
    • Experience leading or coaching others (preferred).
    • Experience with home furnishing, retail or consumer lifestyle sectors (preferred).
    • Knowledge of IKEA brand, tone of voice and values.
    • Applicants must be authorized to work in Japan.

    【Language Requirements】
    Fluent Japanese and business-level English proficiency.

    【Purpose of this Job】
    The Commercial PR Leader is accountable for building, strengthening and protecting IKEA brand in commercial relevant areas, and drives the love, trust and desire to the brand.
    Accountable to create and anchor a clear strategic plan for commercial PR Japan.
    The plan is an integral part of the country’s PR strategy and the overall communication plan, ensuring maximum reach and strong alignment across Corporate PR, the wider Communication team, and Growth & Marketing to reinforce our brand positioning.

    【Your Responsibilities】
    Strategic Commercial Communication
    • Develop and lead the country’s commercial PR strategy and annual plan as part of the integrated PR plan, broader communication plan, aligned with global directions and Marketing.
    • Drive communication that strengthens range desirability, home furnishing leadership, affordability, and customer experience & IKEA Business.

    Media & Influencer Relations
    • Lead proactive and reactive commercial media relations with national and local media.
    • Build strong relationships with media, journalists, editors, influencers and content partners relevant to the commercial agenda.

    Commercial Campaigns & Moments
    • Lead PR strategy and plan execution for commercial campaigns, launches, commercial moments (e.g., new collections, seasonal peaks), and store-level opportunities.
    • Ensure earned media is effectively integrated with marketing and paid channels to maximise commercial impact.

    Issues, Risks & Crisis Support
    • Identify and address commercial-related risks, ensuring readiness for operational issues that have media relevance.
    • Own and execute commercial angles within crisis communication frameworks. Insights & Performance
    • Use insights (consumer, SoMe, media analytics, business data, etc.) to shape commercial narratives and improve outcomes.
    • Measure, evaluate and optimise PR outputs and outcomes for continuous improvement.

    Collaboration & Leadership
    • Work closely with Corporate PR Leader, Marketing, and broader Communication team and Growth & Marketing team to integrate PR into business planning.
    • Provide coaching, strategic direction and support to the Unit roles who are taking care of Commercial PR topic and cross-functional partners.
    • Lead relevant external agency in commercial PR area.
    • Work closely with Global commercial PR network, both Ingka and Inter.
    • Be a role-model IKEA values and strengthen the communication community.

    【Work Hours】
    ・Flextime system (based on labor-management agreement)
    Core hours: 10:00–15:00

    ・This is IKEA Japan’s Service Office, which houses the company’s headquarters functions in Japan.

    About this work area

    【Employment Status】
    - Full-time regular employee- 40 hours per week contract
    (Part-time permanent employee 25-38hours per week Contract)
    - Probation period: 6 months
    - Start date is the first day of every month (consult with us about your start date)
    - Retirement age: 65 years old
