    Job description

    Lead and develop the maintenance function to ensure all IKEA facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in line with our standards. Take responsibility for the performance and reliability of all building systems and related software, while driving preventive and corrective maintenance strategies. Supervise and guide the maintenance team and service providers, ensuring compliance with procedures, policies, and contractual agreements. Actively contribute to creating a safe, sustainable, and customer-friendly environment by aligning maintenance activities with IKEA’s business goals and values.

    • Secure a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for customers, visitors, and co-workers at all times ensuring compliance with IKEA standards and local regulations.
    • Lead and develop the maintenance team, ensuring the right number of competent co-workers are in the right place at the right time, fully trained and empowered to perform their duties.
    • Lead and influence maintenance operations within a matrix organization, providing functional guidance and expertise to store-level teams without direct reporting lines.
    • Oversee all maintenance activities for buildings, property, fixtures, and equipment—including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, electronics, carpentry, and painting—delivering work to IKEA standards.
    • Plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring timely execution and accurate reporting to keep our facilities performing at their best.
    • Manage maintenance contracts and service providers, ensuring compliance with agreed scopes of work and IKEA policies, while supervising quality and efficiency.
    • Take responsibility for maintenance budgets by forecasting needs, preparing annual plans, monitoring costs, and taking corrective actions when required.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of operations, including inventory levels, material supply, spare part stocks, work performed, and status updates.
    • Drive team development and succession planning to build a strong, future-ready maintenance organization.
    • Actively identify potential issues and implement solutions before they escalate, always looking for smarter ways to work.
    • Align maintenance activities with store and department action plans, contributing to overall business goals.
    • Promote IKEA’s social and environmental commitments, integrating sustainability into maintenance practices and inspiring your team to do the same.
    • Ensure compliance with all safety, security, and emergency response procedures, and report any breaches promptly.
    • Adhere to IKEA supply chain and security policies, maintaining transparency and accountability in all operations.

    Qualification
    • Previous experience working in a maintenance department or a similar technical environment.
    • Comfortable with change and highly flexible, adapting easily to new priorities and ways of working.
    • Strong ability to collaborate and contribute within a team, building trust and sharing knowledge.
    • Good communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in English.
    • Skilled at prioritizing and organizing work to make the best use of time and resources, even in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work together in a team, with flexibility to work in any of the IKEA facilities in Kuwait.
