Category Ocean & Air is one of the 5 Categories belonging to Supply Chain Operations and is part of Category Area Transport.

In Category Ocean & Air we secure and develop, together with our Transport Service Providers, transport capacities meeting performance expectations of today and tomorrow, globally. We are 31 co-workers in 3 locations, Pratteln, Shanghai & King of Prussia, working with 30 Transport Service Providers and handling over 310.000 shipments a year with a spend of 675 M EUR.


Job description

As a Category Operations Manager for Category Ocean & Air you strongly contribute to build, lead and develop Supply Chain Operations and Category Ocean & Air in dimension of business and people development, and securing excellent performance in all respects.

As an Operations Manager you act in the following dimensions:

  • Set and steer the global development agenda in the area of operational execution of Ocean transportation to secure short- and long-term performance excellence in terms of transport precision, costs, quality and safety in a sustainable way, fulfilling both current and future demands – on strategical, tactical and operational levels. 
  • Lead and manage a team of specialists, and globally in matrix a team of service provider operation developers. Lead and contribute to personal development of both individual co-workers, and the whole organization to ensure personal and organizational capabilities are in place to continuously perform considering both internal and external context.
  • Support and challenge, where relevant, our Transport Service Providers in terms of reaching wished levels of performance when executing services for IKEA. Lead & contribute to common development projects focusing on transport operations, related to e.g. equipment, operational pre-conditions and transport set-ups, digitalization etc. Secure integration of Transport Service Providers capabilities into IKEA logistical concepts to create additional value for IKEA customers.
  • Co-lead innovation in Ocean transportation from IKEA perspective and secure highest level of industry competence, connected to regulatory developments, advanced transport & logistical set-ups, equipment development, digitalization etc. Secure fast adaption to changed preconditions for transport production (incl. opportunities of infrastructures).
  • Interact, collaborate and align with IKEA supply chain stakeholders to secure appropriate anchoring of transport initiatives, to provide relevant inputs and be anchoring point for other supply chain functions, utilize and co-create aligned ways of working, represent Category Ocean in various cross-functional forums, steering groups, and similar.

As Operations Manager Category Ocean you report to the Category Ocean Manager and are a part of Category Ocean management. You are located in Pratteln, Switzerland.


Qualification

To be successful in this role:

  • You are an experienced leader who is good at building trustful relationships both externally and internally.
  • You have a Supply Chain experience and understanding (experience in operational management) and competence in transportation (building operational set-ups, legislation, market standards, equipment, digital agenda, safety, quality, overall market expertise).
  • You can identify the improvement potentials, and you are able to conceptualize ideas.
  • You enjoy leading people, both directly and indirectly (in matrix).
  • You possess strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to influence others.
  • You have been creating action plans and driving achievement of goals set, setting budgets, providing clear direction, and following up goals.
  • You have proven experience to enable change.
  • You are result oriented, have a lot of energy and the desire to constantly find new ways to develop yourself, others, and the business.
