    About this work area

As Financial Controller, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
    • Ensure that expenses and invoices are correctly recorded, coded and allocated to the appropriate ledger accounts, cost centres and cost owners. Oversee purchase order compliance and support improvements to the invoice and ordering process.
    • Manage budgets across departments, cost centres and cost owners. Lead regular financial reviews to monitor spending, explain variances and support budget adherence.
    • Prepare clear financial reports, forecasts and variance analysis to help the store management team and business stakeholders make informed decisions.
    • Carry out detailed reviews of ledger accounts and spending patterns to identify errors, misallocations, duplicate bookings, unusual activity and opportunities to improve cost control.
    • Analyse historical spending trends to understand key cost drivers and inefficiencies. Constructively challenge discretionary spending and identify opportunities for structural savings, such as consolidating or centralising supplier orders.
    • Use insights from past spending to support more accurate and efficient baseline budgets for future financial periods.
    • Work closely with store management, department leaders, cost owners and finance stakeholders to strengthen financial accountability, maintain effective controls and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
    • Build financial understanding across the retail unit by supporting stakeholders with financial processes, identifying risks and opportunities, and driving continuous improvement.

    As Financial Controller, you are:
    • Qualified in accounting or able to demonstrate equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of financial and operational processes.
    • Experienced in financial control, accounting, budgeting, reporting or commercial controlling, ideally within retail or another operational environment.
    • Commercially minded, with the ability to connect financial information and spending patterns to business performance and operational priorities.
    • Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong skills in reviewing ledger accounts, identifying errors and finding opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • A confident communicator who can build effective relationships, influence stakeholders and hold cost owners accountable in a constructive and solution-focused way.
    • Comfortable questioning discretionary spending and turning financial analysis into practical recommendations, process improvements and savings.
    • Proactive, curious and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively at both a strategic and operational level.
    • Passionate about strong financial control, responsible cost management and supporting the retail unit to perform successfully.
