Company descriptionWe are now looking for TWO students that want to write their Master thesis at IKEA Range & Supply from January to June 2025.
The forest, land and agriculture (FLAG) sector represents nearly a quarter of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions - the largest emitting sector after energy. IKEA, as one of the world's major consumers of biogenic raw material meanwhile having a strategy of shifting more materials to bio-based sourcing, are strongly motivated to reducing FLAG emissions and improving potential FLAG removals.
We are therefore looking for two master students to identify and quantify the contribution of sustainable land management practices on reducing FLAG emissions and enhancing FLAG removals for the key commodities.
Job description
IKEA is seeking TWO Master thesis students to answer the following research questions:
- What land management activities are there that can reduce FLAG emissions / increase FLAG removals of specific selected commodity?
- How much FLAG emissions reduction and / or removals increase can the identified activities bring to the specific commodity in different farm production systems and sourcing regions?
- What options of land management activities can be applied and combined for achieving the specific climate goal of FLAG emissions and removals?
The corresponding expected deliverables are:
- Identify land management practices relevant to the selected commodity.
- Quantification of the potential reduction of IKEAs FLAG emissions and / or increased FLAG removals that identified activities can result in, specific to in different farm production systems and sourcing regions.
- Summary of quantification results of land management activities and a developed framework that can be used to set action strategy for climate goal of commodity’s FLAG emissions and removals.
