HEJ! (Swedish for Hi)
We’re searching for an engineer who is excited about technology and innovative ways of working and wants to be a part of shaping the future of payments at IKEA!
IKEA’s vision is to “create a better everyday life for the many people” by offering a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low, that as many people as possible will be able to afford them. This spirit of access needs to be supported by amazing software systems, and we would like to ask if you want to be a part of this.
We’re building a seamless payment experience for the many people.
How do we do this? We transform the complex landscape of payments into easy-to-use platforms. We create an environment that celebrates new ideas. We take a data-driven approach to continuous improvement, and we create systems that are secure, scalable, and resilient. And, in true IKEA fashion, we do it in the spirit of collaboration and togetherness.

THE OPPORTUNITY
You will help us modernize and create a user-friendly omnichannel prepaid payment platform within IKEA to process many thousands of prepaid payment transactions for 30+ markets worldwide. A security-focused approach is paramount for us and our customers. And, since our mission is access, prepaid payments need to “just work”, so resiliency and scalability are equally important. In this role, you will report to an engineering manager in the Payments capability area. The Malmö/ Helsingborg office in Sweden will be your home location.

DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?
When you visit our website (IKEA.com) and read about our culture and values it resonates with you. You are curious and view failure as a way of learning and pushing your skills. You believe in taking a pragmatic approach and value simplicity when building new solutions. You also have:
- Experience in designing high-quality services using JVM-based languages, preferably Java.
- You’ve got a passion for the frontend and an eye for a good UI and UX, preferably with React experience.
- Experience and desire to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient services based on DevOps principles.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms – preferably GCP (Google Cloud Platform), but other platforms are great too!
- The ability to design continuous integration/delivery pipelines and have used CI tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins or TeamCity.
- Experience using deployment automation tools such as Terraform and GitHub Actions.
- An understanding of modern observability practices such as distributed tracing, structured logging and metrics.
- Have great written and verbal communication skills.

DO YOU HAVE THESE DESIRABLES?
- Experience working in e-commerce and online payments.
- Familiarity with building web applications using modern frameworks and best practices.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?
- A direct impact on the lives of millions of people worldwide. With us, you’ll be challenged to create scalable solutions that have a direct customer impact in 30+ markets around the world.
- A challenging yet fun work environment. We believe that technical excellence and collaboration are key, and fun is a must.
- Continuous learning. We want to invest in you and your future. With our 80/20 rule, you’ll spend 80% of your time working on a product and 20% working on yourself.
- A place to be you. Diversity and inclusion are written into our company’s DNA. When you work at IKEA, you’ll join a welcoming community where you can be creative and be yourself.
