  • Company description

We are on the journey to transform our digital capabilities, bringing core business processes, people, data & technology together - an enabler for IKEA to become an even better home furnishing retailer in the future. A journey that needs passionate people who embrace change, dare to question and want to make a difference. If that sounds like you, come and join us. Together we can do great things!

Inter IKEA Group is organized into three core businesses - Range, Supply and Retail Concept - and five enabling functions. Together we contribute to the success of IKEA and share responsibility for the franchise offer.

The enabling functions are responsible for leading key common activities in networks across Inter IKEA Group, as well as covering specific needs for the core businesses. The five Enabling functions are Operations Management, Business Performance & Support, Communication, Sustainability and People & Culture.

Operations Management leads and holds together the development and maintenance of a common foundation for how we work together across the value chain, our operating model. We enable strategic movements towards the IKEA goals through the strategic landscape and work closely with all parts of the value chain to achieve them. It includes teams for business insights, capability and process development, strategy and roadmap, data and product, and technology.

We have chosen to organize our work in a data and product paradigm where we are building empowered teams that have the privilege to take responsibility while being supported by servant leaders.

    Job description

Make data a democratic resource, from both an operational and analytical perspective, available to all IKEA co-workers in an accessible and easy-to-use context. Transforming how we find, interact and derive insights and knowledge from all parts of our value chain.

Your mission: to craft a relevant and reliable data foundation across our value chain through clear data domains and well‑managed data products. Some of these we will build ourselves, and others we will enable by supporting colleagues across IKEA. We work closely with teams across the value chain to help them succeed and to support our shared strategic ambitions.

Sustainability consists of several teams, all working together on improving the environmental and societal impact of IKEA. The data platform is hosted entirely on Azure Cloud and Databricks (soon also extended to AWS), with most data pipelines for digital products written in Python. Our frontend is built using Power BI/Fabric. All digital- and data product teams consist of engineers and a Product Owner, and work with an Agile mindset.

As part of this role, you will

    • Have responsibility for the development of data pipelines and supporting functions like metadata, data quality, lineage, monitoring etc.
    • Be part of a team and partake in activities such as daily standup, planning, backlog review, peer reviews etc.
    • Proactively cooperate and align with our architecture, privacy and cyber security functions, including implementation of their input in the team
    • Work collaboratively with business stakeholders and engineers in Sustainability and ensure alignment between cross-functional teams
    • Align and share knowledge with other teams within the Data & Product area and sometimes also within Digital as a whole.
    • Act as an ambassador for good engineering and developer experience — helping the team simplify, reduce friction and strengthen our engineering culture.
    • Contribute to clear, pragmatic ways of working that help teams focus on delivering value rather than fighting complexity.

    Who You Are

As a Senior Data Engineer, you bring technical depth, curiosity and a genuine drive to make things better. You enjoy solving real problems and helping others succeed, and you take pride in building solutions that are reliable, simple and easy to maintain. You play an important role in designing, improving and operating our data ecosystem — creating pipelines and data products that support both daily operations and long‑term ambitions.

You set a positive example in the team by promoting good engineering practices, raising quality standards in a humble way, and contributing to a culture where learning, openness and collaboration come naturally. You are comfortable working across domains, partnering with both engineers and business stakeholders to find practical solutions that create value.

You also care about the developer experience. You help shape an environment where engineers can focus on building, learning and delivering — not fighting complexity. You simplify where possible, share knowledge generously and support ways of working that strengthen our engineering culture across teams.

Your mindset and behaviours influence how our data platform evolves and how we work together as a team. Through your work, you directly contribute to modernising our data landscape, enabling smarter decisions and creating new opportunities across IKEA.

    Qualification
    • 5 years experience working within Data Engineering, proficient in Python/Pyspark and SQL
    • Demonstratable experience as a Senior Data Engineer designing and implementing performance optimized and scalable data pipelines
    • Experience in cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP), Data Platforms (Databricks) and BI tools (Power BI)
    • Exposure to concepts like Data Mesh, Data Lakehouse & Data Products is a plus
    • A collaborative mindset — you enjoy supporting colleagues, improving ways of working and contributing to a healthy engineering culture
    • A positive interest in developer experience and building simple, reliable solutions that are easy for others to use
