Who you are

· You have a university degree in Law, are a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, and have a license to practice law in
Ontario.
· You have a minimum of three (3) years broad corporate/commercial experience preferably in a corporate legal department in the retail industry.
· You have a good knowledge of relevant legislation governing general corporate activities and operations.
· You have demonstrated success in building strong relationships with stakeholders, functional areas, and business partners.
· You thrive in a small team setting and effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· You are proficient at reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents.
· You have exceptional communication skills and can engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
· You’re known for sound judgment and a creative common-sense approach to problem solving

A day in your life with us

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide timely, high quality and practical support to the IKEA businesses in Canada - including retail,
distribution, properties and services - as part of a small and dynamic Legal & Governance team. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad
range of legal and governance areas which intersect with the everyday business needs of IKEA, and include the following:
· Provide strategic legal advice and opinions on various areas of law to support business operations.
· Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and legal agreements.
· Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
· Act as the Legal representative in cross-functional project teams or working groups.
· Support with the maintenance and administration of corporate records and registrations.
· Identify and implement process improvements in the legal department and the business.
· Develop and deliver training to enhance legal competence within the business.
· Develop internal guidelines on various legal and business issues to minimize risk to IKEA.
· Stay abreast of relevant legal and governance developments including changes in laws and regulations, and advise the business on their impact
on operations, to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
· Handle disputes and legal claims to safeguard the legitimate interests of the organization.
· Oversee external legal counsel and ensure that legal services are performed in a manner that is consistent with IKEA core values, Code of
Conduct and policies.
· Liaise with Legal & Governance colleagues in the Ingka Group to ensure alignment between the Country and Group agendas

The starting rate/salary for this position is $84,500.
