Who you are

Do you love new challenges and opportunities? Then this might be the right position for you, and we think you should keep reading this ad. Maybe you’re the one we’re looking for?

We’re looking for someone with a passion for carpentry and home furnishing. You’re a practical and handy problem solver who enjoys fixing, constructing, building, painting, and maintaining. And you would do it well, with finesse and a keen eye for detail. You have a strong passion for quality, craftsmanship, and home décor. You’re motivated by continuously developing and finding improvements in work methods, with a focus on working more sustainably and cost-effectively. A great team player to support your colleagues in creating inspiring solutions.

For this role, you need to have a high school education or post-secondary education in carpentry. If you have experience in building displays for exhibitions and fairs or working with scenography, it’s an advantage. You should be comfortable working with various tools and technical machines commonly used in carpentry and painting.

In addition to your genuine interest in and competence in craft tasks in all their forms, it’s important that you’re a person who can and is used to leading yourself, as you will often manage and take responsibility for your own agenda based on incoming orders. You’re good at working in a structured manner and meeting deadlines. You’re attentive and enjoy working with others. If you also have experience in coaching and supporting colleagues, perhaps in a role as a team leader, project manager, or teacher, it’s a plus.

You can understand and communicate in Swedish and English. Driver's license and good computer skills are required.

A day in your life with us

Where others see home furnishing products, we in the Communication & Interior Design function see smart solutions to create a better everyday life. With passion and creativity, we transform colours, textiles, and furniture into inspiring environments that captivate, engage, and convince our visitors that they can do it too!

As a Carpenter/Handyman at IKEA, you will help highlight the IKEA store as the best option for home furnishing in the local market.

You will do this by, among other things:
- Painting, building walls and podiums, organizing display panels, laying floors, and tiling in our displays, etc.
- Installing kitchens, helping to assemble furniture and prepare the areas for the implementations
- Following work strategies developed together with colleagues to implement all store and inspiration areas in the store
- Working according to clear deadlines
- During bigger rebuilds taking responsibility for external carpenters/painters, making sure they execute the tasks according to the plans and deadlines
- Planning and ordering materials, taking responsibility for the budget, and working cost-effectively
- Keeping the “carpentry room” neat and tidy to ensure good and healthy work environment
- Working in a team with your colleagues across the store to ensure that IKEA Gallerian is always in excellent condition, with the customer as the main focus
- Engaging in physical work, including heavy lifting
And everything you do is about helping to highlight all our fantastic products so that they truly stand out in an inspiring and welcoming store environment.

Since you’ll be working in customer areas, even during store hours, it’s important that you prioritize safety, order, and tidiness. Customer service is also a key aspect as you’ll encounter customers in the store.
