Job description
Being a UI/UX Designer in Digital Services
We all know that your home is more than a house. At IKEA, we also believe your work is more than a job. The digital services team comprises of digital products, digital projects, online development, data, operations & compliance and this role is an integral part of the digital products team.
In our team we set the digital agenda to keep IKEA growing in a fast moving and uncertain environment. We drive development using new and existing technologies, collaborating externally and internally within the wider group of companies we associate with.
In our team we believe in a strategic and product centric mindset and openness to change and transformation. We all come from different backgrounds and work together to engineer products and product landscapes that speaks effectiveness, efficiency and simplicity. In this role, you will report to the Development Support Manager (DSM), Ikano Retail.
Your responsibilities
As a UI/UX Designer, you will be responsible to optimise user experiences across digital and data-driven solutions by engaging in the full range of design activities. These include discovery, prototyping, and wireframing, all with a steadfast focus on prioritising the needs and perspectives of the end user.
In this role, you are to:
- Develop high-performing digital and data products (applications) with a strong focus on product design and user experience, ensuring compatibility and optimisation across a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Partner closely with product managers and other stakeholders to conceptualise digital products by translating business requirements into wireframes and prototypes that prioritise intuitive user experiences.
- Ensure all designs adhere to IKEA brand guidelines, reflecting the company’s values, visual identity, tone of voice, and quality standards, while contributing to a seamless and engaging digital consumer decision journey.
- Effectively articulate design concepts, user flows, and prototypes to product managers and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment and clarity.
- Collaborate with internal and external developers to maintain a strong focus on user experience throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Conduct A/B testing and leverage data-driven insights to identify design and functional improvements, proposing customer-centric solutions.
- Work in partnership with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and external suppliers to deliver high-quality digital solutions.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, prototypes, and related materials.
- Actively support the digital transformation journey.
Qualification
To be successful as a UI/UX Designer, we believe you’ll need a minimum 5 years of hands-on digital product design experience in building digital solutions, of which at least 3 years of hands-on experience in designing for web & app-based solutions. In addition to this, you’ll need to have:
- Demonstrated expertise in user-centric design methodologies, user behaviour, and accessibility standards.
- Proven ability to develop wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to effectively visualise and refine design concepts.
- Proficiency in creating responsive designs optimised for diverse screen sizes and devices, ensuring consistent and seamless user experience across web platforms.
- Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to facilitate effective collaboration with developers and address technical constraints.
- Mastery of industry-standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Experience in conducting usability testing and A/B testing, analysing feedback, and applying actionable insights to enhance web-based designs.
- Keen awareness of the latest trends, tools, and technologies in UI/UX design for web-based solutions, ensuring innovative and modern designs.
- Comprehensive understanding of digital ecosystems and their components, with the ability to influence customer journeys and enhance overall product experiences.
- In-depth knowledge of market trends and cutting-edge technologies, leveraging insights to align design strategies with business objectives.
- Understanding of agile / scrum development processes.
- Familiarity with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and implementing inclusive designs for diverse user needs is a plus.
- Proven planning ability to consistently meet agreed goals, budget and deadlines.
- Preferred: Deep knowledge of IKEA Retail and Shopping Centre digital ecosystems and processes.
